Engaging the Future

With our community finally emerging from the crises of the last several years, 2023 provides an opportunity to take a step back from just surviving—to thinking proactively about what comes next. In fact, our theme this year plays off of the provocation ASTC posed at last year’s conference: “What’s Next?” In 2023, as ASTC marks fifty years in the science engagement field, “Engaging the Future” captures the courage of looking forward in our address of the most urgent global challenges we face, as organizations, as a community, and as society. Annual Conference provides a place for the exploration of the new approaches that will shape how science centers connect with their respective communities. Together we will inspire science center and museum leaders to go beyond the here and now. The power of engagement will shape the future of our world.
 
“Engaging the Future” also has a nice double meaning. In addition to our community engaging in thinking about the future, our members engage their audiences in thinking about science and technology every day. So, we’re both engaging the future within the ASTC community and in conversation with broader society.
